Positive Move from Men to Increase Participation

For the 2015-16 season Ballymena Men 1st XI will be playing in Junior League 5!!!

Dropping out of Senior Hockey, after contesting the Sussex Regiment Cup final last year, was a decision not taken lightly by the Club membership. However, the need to develop young players and provide an arena that could see the Club move forward in the years ahead, was a fundamental need for the Men’s section.

The move sanctioned by Ulster Hockey, will give young players the opportunity to play in both Junior League 5 with the 1st XI and Junior League 6 with the 2nd XI, which will allow new players to progress within the team structure much easier than a 1st XI team playing in the new Senior 1.

By introducing coaching sessions for schoolboys on Thursday nights, the Club aims to increase participation of the sport throughout local Primary and Secondary schools and give boys the opportunity to play at U13, U15 and Senior levels.

The Club will review their position at the end of this season, in light of this new initiative and will advise Ulster Hockey when they are ready to return to Senior hockey again.
