Ballymena Ladies 1st XI (3) v (0) Armagh Ladies 1st XI

Saturday 11th February

Senior League 1

Ballymena took an early lead in this game following some good pressing and relentless pressure on the Armagh defence. Rebekah Reynolds latched onto a well-placed pass from Anne Crooks to slot home for 1-0 to the home side.

Armagh fought back with good open play and several penalty corners but Ballymena’s defence held firm and before the half time break added a second goal from Kirsten Young on the back post.
At the restart the game developed fairly evenly with action at both ends, but neither team could find the goal.  Ballymena continued strong in defence, frustrating every attack from the visitors.

Towards the close of the match Clare Gillespie found space close to the circle and off-loaded to Reynolds for her second goal of the game, giving Ballymena the victory 3-0.

Banbridge Ladies 2nd XI  (2) v (0)  Ballymena Ladies 1st XI

Saturday 11th February

Junior League 2

The Ladies 2nds travelled away to Banbridge needing a win to keep their opponents below them in the league standings at the short end of the season.  The home side were much more determined in the first half and dominated much of the play after the initial ten minutes.  Ballymena struggled with possession and eventually it was Banbridge who opened the scoring just before the break.

At the restart Ballymena sparked into life and fought hard to win the ball over, high up the pitch.  Banbridge defended resolutely and denied the space for every shot on goal.  However, as Ballymena attacked, the home side countered and added a further goal for 2-0 with ten minutes to go.  Unable to get the break of the ball Ballymena fought hard to the end but couldn’t get anything out of the game and now with five league games remaining they will have to be hard fought to gain enough points to avoid the drop to Junior 3!

Kilkeel Men’s 3rd XI (1) v (4) Ballymena Men’s 1st XI

Saturday 11th February

Junior League 4

Ballymena travelled to Kilkeel on Saturday hoping to build on their performance at Portrush last week. Ballymena started brightly and took control of possession in the early stages. The opening goal of the game came after 20 minutes when Alex McKeown got a deft touch on a Glen Whitten cross. Despite a number of chances, some strong defensive blocks from the home side denied Ballymena from adding to their tally before the break.

Ballymena again enjoyed the majority of possession after the restart.  But a quick counter attack from Kilkeel saw the home side draw level with 10 minutes played in the second half. Ballymena soon restored their lead when Ethan Archer was first to respond from a rebound off the Kilkeel keepers pads. Chris Hogg then added a third from a short corner routine and Andrew Lorimer finished the game off with Ballymena's fourth after the pace on his strike deceived the keeper.

Thanks to Davy Lorimer for travelling to umpire.
